A distinguished group of Geer descendants formally established the Geer Family Association in 1976, the year of America's Bicentennial Celebration. GFA's founding took place at the very first Geer Family Reunion, which was held in June, 1976 in Ledyard, Connecticut.

The organizers immediately began work on a supplement to Walter Geer's 1923 The Geer Genealogy. In 1984, the GFA newsletter found its way into member's USPS mailboxes, and it continues to be published and mailed to the present day, though many members simply read it here online. This website gives members access to all 94 newsletter issues.

After publishing the 1st Supplement in 1991, a team of GFA members worked for another decade on the 2nd Supplement, which they published in 2002.
